The National Assembly of the Republic of South Africa has re-elected Mr.Cyril Ramaphosa as the President-elect of the Republic of South Africa during its first sitting of the 7th Parliament.

Ramaphosa, representing the African National Congress (ANC), was nominated by Mdumiseni Ntuli. He ran against Julius Malema of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), who was nominated by Nqabayomzi Kwankwa.

According to the constitution of the Republic of South Africa, the National Assembly is required to elect a President from among its members at its first sitting after an election.

Ramaphosa secured the presidency with 283 votes, significantly outpacing his closest competitor, Julius Malema, who received 44 votes.

Upon being elected President, the individual ceases to be a member of the National Assembly and must assume office within five days by taking an oath of office. Ramaphosa’s inauguration ceremony will be held in Pretoria within this five-day period.

After his inauguration, President Ramaphosa will move forward to form a cabinet by appointing ministers to head different government departments.

With the cabinet in place, Ramaphosa will convene a joint session of the newly established National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces to deliver the Opening of Parliament Address (OPA) to lay the agenda for his second term.
