Prof. Olive Mugenda, Chairperson of the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital, praised Prof. Mutahi’s impactful leadership and dedication to the education sector.

“He was a pragmatic leader who not only got the assignments right but also ensured that work was accomplished efficiently,” she wrote a tribute on X.

Mugenda fondly recalled Mutahi’s role during the operationalization of Kenyatta University Hospital, stating, “When we were nearing completion of the hospital, Prof. Mutahi graciously accepted to chair the operationalization committee I had appointed. His insights were invaluable.”

Prof Mugenda noted that Prof Mutahi supported Vice Chancellors during his tenure as PS in the Ministry of Education, and his contributions helped improve the quality of education in Kenyan universities.

“His contributions will be remembered and celebrated for years to come. May his soul rest in peace following a distinguished career in public service.” Prof Mugenda added.

    His tenure as PS

Karega Mutahi served as Principal Secretary during the grand coalition government under the late President Mwai Kibaki, from 2003 to 2010. He was a driving force behind significant reforms in higher education.
