The tragic drowning of two students in an abandoned quarry close to Moi University’s main campus has left the university community in a state of deep sadness.
Their classmates, family, and the institution as a whole have all been deeply impacted by the loss of these young lives, who were full of promise and potential.
The two were in a group of four who were exploring the area and decided to swim in an abandoned, water-filled quarry close to Moi University’s main campus in Uasin Gishu. Two of them were rescued by locals while the rest did not make it.
The students were not in class since their lecturers had gone on strike leaving them with a lot of free time. After being closed for one month owing to a worker strike, the university is anticipated to reopen on Friday.
The students are urged to keep safe and avoid unsafe places and dangerous picnics as they wait for the university’s re-opening.
