After the recent statement by Meta on August 06, 2024, Kenyan content creators will now be smiling to the bank. Meta has announced that Kenyan creators who satisfy the eligibility standards can now take advantage of two additional revenue options: Facebook Reels and Facebook In-Stream Ads.
These features will allow creators to make money while creating original content and growing their audience.
Commenting on the rollout, Moon Baz, Global Partnerships Lead, Africa, Middle East and Turkey (AMET) at Meta said: “Every day, we’re inspired by the incredible African creators who use Facebook to tell their stories, connect with others and bring people together. This expansion will empower eligible creators in the vibrant creative industry in Kenya to earn money while setting the bar high for creativity across the world and making Meta’s family of apps the one-stop-shop for all creators.”
Facebook In-Stream Ads & Facebook Reels
In-stream ads can run before, during, or after on-demand videos, including pre-recorded content and recordings of prior live streams.
In-stream ads are classified into four types: pre-roll ads (before the video starts), mid-roll ads (during the video), image ads (static pictures displayed beneath the content), and post-roll ads (at the end of the video).
Ads on Facebook Reels work seamlessly with original Reels, allowing creators to get compensated based on the performance of their reels while delighting fans.
Starting today, qualifying Kenyan creators can earn money from their video and reel content, supporting over 30 languages worldwide, including Swahili. To utilize either product, creators must agree with Facebook’s Partner Monetisation Policies and Content Monetisation Policies, and they must be at least 18 years old.
Additionally, creators of In-Stream Ads must meet specific eligibility restrictions, such as having at least 5,000 followers.
This is the result of the Kenyan government’s efforts spanning over a year.
Ruto applauded the action and expressed his satisfaction with the preparations to enable M-Pesa monetization.
“Now content creators can begin earning from their imagination and creativity. I have kept my word to negotiate and get them fresh opportunities,” he said.
